Workshop on forest resettlement

Bhopal, March 8, 2011 (Ataullah Faizan):   In order to analyze the works for agro-forestry and others resettlement of forest carried out between 2005-10 in 22 selected forest areas of 11 different agriculture climates, a workshop was organised by Forest Department recently. Inaugurating the workshop, Forest Minister Mr. Sartaj Singh said that around 1.25 crore people scrape a living by the resources of forest. There is biological pressure on forest. He said that forest produce like lakh, sericulture, grass, medicinal plants, bamboos, etc., should be generated through resettlement of forest and agro-forestry. It will help directly to the beneficiaries. Additional Chief Secretary Forest, Mr. M.K. Roy said that there are natural beauties in three states Uttarakhand , Orissa and Madhya Pradesh. Forest areas of these states needed to be resettled. Wildlife and forest management is well developed in India and other countries can also learn from India.  Principal Chief Forest Conservator Mr. R.K. Dave said that the output of research conducted on forest last year could be used in other schemes of forest department.

20 divisional forest officers and 8 regional chief forest conservators were appreciated at the workshop for their presentation on forest status. They were instructed to keep on seeking cooperation of local people for the resettlement of forest. Indian Council Of Forestry Research And Education (ICFRE), Dehradun director Dr. Sandeep Tripathi gave detailed presentation on the project. Mr. Pankaj Agrawal of Council gave an example of the development of Karim forest park of Kerala. Mr. Rajkumar Vajpayee from Indian Forest Survey, Dehradoon informed about the change in forest through satellite.

Forest Department hoped that Survey of Indian Forest would provide variation data of forest through satellite so that it can improve and manage forest areas. Additional Principal Chief Forest Conservator (development) Mr. Jitendra Agrawal said that this project would also help green India mission being initiated by Central Government.
