Medical and engineering courses should be in Hindi

Third session of “Hindi in Science”

Bhopal, September 14, 2015 (Ataullah Faizan):   Union Science & Technology Minister Dr. Harshvardhan chaired parallel session on “Hindi in Science” which concluded with recommendations and important suggestions on the third day of 10th Vishwa Hindi Sammelan here today. During last 2 sessions, scholars, scientists and science communicators held detailed discussions on challenges and opportunities of availability of science in Hindi and put forth their views. In both sessions, there were 5 speakers including Dr. Shivgopal Mishra of Pradhan Mantri Vigyan Parishad, Prayag, Dr. N. K. Sahgal, former Advisor to Union Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Mohanlal Chheepa, Vice Chancellor of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, Dr. B.K. Sinha, former scientist of Science & Technical Terminology Commission and Dr. Subhash Lakheda, former scientist, DRDO. Union Minister Dr. Harshavardhan said that main objective of session “Hindi in Science” is preparation of courses of science, technology, medical and engineering in Hindi, popularizing science in Hindi and promote spread of science.

He said that achievements of science should be available to masses. Former Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee had added slogan “Jay Vigyan” to earlier slogan “Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan”.  Dr. Harshvardhan also spoke on making use of Hindi in science more effective, availability of scientific materials on social media and publication of science-based daily newspaper.  Stress was laid by scholars that for promotion of Hindi, all regulatory institutions of medical sector should allow giving answers in Hindi for a prescribed time-limit and exams should be bi-lingual. Suggestion was made to invite retired doctors to training institutes for popular lectures. The session also discussed acceptance to standardization of popular and current science and technical terms as it is in Dev Nagri script and teaching of science in mother tongue from school level.
