36,000 animal husbandry shades constructed in state
Bhopal, October 24, 2015 (Ataullah Faizan): Along with providing employment to rural labourers under MNREGA in the state, efforts are also being made to strengthen livelihood sources of weaker sections. MNREGA is living upto adage of “From Employment to Livelihood”. Schemes for animal husbandry, poultry and goatery under MNREGA are benefiting poor and weaker sections. Construction of shades has promoted animal husbandry, poultry farming and goatery and annual income of beneficiaries has also increased. Animal husbandry is means of livelihood for a number of people in rural areas, but this source of livelihood is not becoming strong due to lack of proper animal husbandry arrangements. Under MNREGA’s Pashupalan, Murgi Palan, Bakri Palan Ashray Yojna, over 36,994 shades have been constructed while over 50 thousand are under construction. Of these, 30,132 shades are for livestock keeping, 6476 for goatery and 386 for poultry farming.
Arrangements for fodder for livestock are also being made through MNREGA shades also with shelter. Untimely deaths of livestock due to feeding of impurities in grass have also almost come to an end now. It is noteworthy that since start, 182.30 crore mandays have been generated under MNREGA including 33.04 crore by SCs, 74.79 crore by STs while women have generated 78.69 crore mandays. Under the scheme, a number of works are going on in rural areas and job card holders are being provided employment on demand.
