Motivate farmers to increase agriculture production through alternative crops

Mr. Bisen inaugurates Agri and Horti expo

Bhopal, December 30, 2015 (Ataullah Faizan):  Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Mr. Gaurishankar Bisen has said that 4 percent per annum increase in agriculture production is necessary to meet food grains requirement of the country. For this, agriculture scientists should encourage farmers to use new techniques and grow alternative crops so that they can produce food grains as per need of the country. Mr. Bisen was inaugurating International Agri and Horti Technology Expo at Bittan Market here today. The Expo will continue till December 31. Minister Mr. Bisen said that climate changing constantly affecting our crops. Under these circumstances, it is necessary to motivate farmers to explore new income resources like growing of alternative crops of fruits and vegetables and provide them resources for this.

He stressed the need of adopting integrated agriculture system these days. Mr. Bisen informed that Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has resolved to making farmers prosperous and agriculture a profitable occupation. As a result, the state is receiving Krishi Karman Award for last 3 years. As compared to earlier, agriculture production has increased by 110 percent. Production of wheat, paddy and maize is also increasing. Arable area in the state has increased from 1.92 crore hectares to 2.31 hectares.

Area under irrigation has also increased by more than double. He said that organic farming is being promoted in the state. Area under organic farming has increased from 1.60 lakh hectares to 17.58 lakh hectares. Madhya Pradesh has established its identity in the country as a state producing certified seeds. Information technology has been used to give timely counseling to farmers.

Through it, 1,781 lakh farmers have been adviced through SMS. Mr. Bisen said that such Expos should be held regularly so that its benefit reach farmers. International Agri and Horti Technology Expo is being organized jointly by Bharatiya Media, Farmers Welfare & Agriculture Department. During it, farmers will be apprised of modern appliances and techniques.
