State’s girls to play Olympics with Indian hockey team

cmplay23.1.16Bhopal, January 23, 2016 (Muslim Saleem):  Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed to further improve sports academies in the state and develop competitive spirit among children so that maximum number of state’s players can win medals in national and international competitions. He expressed happiness on selection of state’s girls in Indian hockey team for ensuing Olympics and congratulated them. The Chief Minister was reviewing activities of Sports and Youth Welfare Department here today. Departmental Minister Mrs. Yashodhara Raje Scindia and Chief Secretary Mr. Anthony de Sa, Secretary Sports Mr. Sachin Sinha, Secretary Finance Mr. Aniruddha Mukherjee and Director Sports Mr. Upendra Jain were also present on the occasion.

In view of success of “Maa Tujhe Pranam Yojana”, the Chief Minister directed to establish dialogue with youths after they return from visit to country’s borders and elicit their experiences. Besides, this scheme should be made more purposeful and number of youths should be increased. He said that necessary arrangements should be made to further improve sports academies in the state. Efforts should be made to obtain cooperation of country’s prestigious voluntary organisations in Yoga and other practices in the state.

The meeting was informed that constant efforts are being made to raise talented players under Mission Olympics. Six players of senior category of Madhya Pradesh State Women’s Hockey Academy have been included in probables of Indian team for Rio Olympics-2016. Besides, 4 junior category girls have also made it to Indian junior girls hockey team. Similarly, Madhya Pradesh has been national champions for the last 10 years in Judo Karate senior and junior categories. One player has represented state in taekwondo international competition.

It was informed that 62 players of the state have taken part and won 35 medals in various international and 135 medals in national competitions.  Chief Minister’s Cup, MLA Cup and district level sports competitions have been started to promote sports in the state. In Chief Minister’s Cup recently, 3 lakh youths took part. MLA Cup will be played in all Vidhan Sabha constituencies next month. Outdoor stadiums costing Rs. 80 lakh each are being constructed in all districts. Of these, land has been allotted for 224 and 209 sports stadiums have been sanctioned.
