Farmers’ convention at CM house today to mark conferment of Krishi Karman Award for 4th time
Bhopal, January 31, 2016 (Ataullah Faizan): Farmers will be felicitated at a convention at CM House at 5 pm on January 31 here in the context of conferment of Krishi Karman Award to the state for consecutive 4th year. Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be present at the convention. Farmers Welfare & Agriculture Development Minister Mr. Gaurishankar Bisen, Finance Minister Mr. Jayant Malaiya and Panchayats & Rural Development Minister Mr. Gopal Bhargava will also be present. Farmers with outstanding contribution in productivity and production will be felicitated at the convention. They would be given honorarium worth Rs. 50 thousand each. The departments due to whose contribution agriculture has grown in the state will also be felicitated. The state has witnessed major achievements in agriculture sector during last 10 years.
Due to Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s policies and agenda to give top priority of farmers welfare, state’s agriculture growth has increased from 14.76 percent to 20.11 percent in just 4 years. As a result, the state was conferred Krishi Karman Award for maximum food grains production in year 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2014-15 and maximum wheat production in year 2013-14. This major achievement has been possible through government’s policies, hard work of farmers and efforts of field officers and employees.
Madhya Pradesh has witnessed revolutionary changes in agriculture sector during last 10 years. Apart from yearly increase in agriculture growth rate, the state stands first in production of pulses and oilseeds and second in total food grains production. Due to agriculture-friendly policies and farmers hard work, the state is first in the country in soybean production and second in production of masoor and mustard. During last 10 years, maize production has doubled, wheat production 3-fold and paddy production has registered 4-fold increase. Agriculture area in the state has increased by 39 lakh hectares during last 10 years.
Today, state’s wheat is sold as MP Brand in the country. The state is also first in production of garlic, guava, medicinal and aromatic plants, second in production of coriander, peas and onion and third in tomato production and floriculture. For increase in productivity, availability of chemical fertilizers increased by 30 percent in Rabi and 18 percent in Kharif seasons during year 2015. Due to attention paid to seed production, the state stands first in country in production of certified seeds, which has doubled during last 10 years. In the state, 730 custom hiring centres have been opened and 510 are being opened this year. During last 10 years, rain-fed agriculture area has declined to one fourth.
