Drunken drivers’ licences to be cancelled

Mr. Chouhan directs during review of transport department

lead6.2.16Bhopal, February 6, 2016 (Muslim Saleem):  Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed for continuous drive for inspections of vehicles and to cancel licences of drunken drivers immediately. Reviewing activities of Transport Department at Mantralaya here today, Mr. Chouhan also directed for continuous checking of vehicle for pollution and fitness. If passengers complaint about overloading with photograph of buses through Whatsapp or other social media to officers, strict action will be taken against concerning vehicle’s driver and owner. For this, a new system will be evolved soon. This would help curb overloading in buses with cooperation of passengers. The Chief Minister directed to improve arrangements at bus stands under PPP. The Chief Minister instructed to allocate Rs. 5 crore initially to start functioning of Public Transport Infrastructure Authority. The meeting was informed that for school buses, tax has been reduced from Rs. 120 to Rs. 12 per seat. It has benefited 15 thousand school buses in the state. Online arrangements have been started for registration and issuuance of licenses to vehicles.

Registration of 17 thousand drivers has been made under CM’s Driver-Conductor Welfare Scheme. Transport revenue has increased to Rs. 1571 crore and will further increase to Rs. 2100 by year-end. Free driving licences are being provided to women. Lifetime tax on vehicles has been reduced. In the interest of farmers, tax on vehicles for agriculture use has been reduced from 6 to one percent. In all, 3000 centres will be set up to issue vehicle pollution control certificates. Transport Minister Mr. Bhupendra Singh, Chief Secretary Mr. Anthony de Sa, Principal Secretary to CM Mr. Iqbal Singh Bains and other senior officers attended the meeting.
