Bhopal, March 5, 2016 (Ataullah Faizan): Country’s first Global Bamboo Summit will be held at Indore from April 8 to 10, 2016. Theme of the summit will be ‘Bamboo for Sustainable Development – Global Cooperation’. This would provide opportunity to bamboo producers and businessmen to connect with global network. Objective of the summit is making available discussion forum to bamboo producers, craftspersons, industrialists and technicians and discussions on bamboo procurement, bamboo policy, bamboo innovations etc. It also aims at maintaining demand and consumption of bamboo and increasing interaction between banking institutions, designers and bamboo industrialists. The summit will also discuss economic upliftment of the districts which produce bamboo on large scale, but are unable to earn proper profit from it. Discussions will also be held at the summit on role of bamboo in climate change, further its importance in market as replacement of timber, supply chain management for bamboo craft and products, bamboo in Make in India etc. India is second in the world in bamboo production. As many as 130 species of bamboo are found here. Indian bamboo industries transacts business of Rs. 2040 crore at international level and Rs. 4463 crore in the country. Through innovative management, bamboo can be used for economic upliftment of villages, serve as an alternative of wood and developed as significant factor of climate change.
