Saints aver during Simhastha
Bhopal, May 11, 2016 (Abdul Ahad Farhan): Mass movement can be an effective medium to curb female foeticide. Even though the issue is discussed frequently in society, but every section of society needs to be involved in the process. Then the issue was taken up with saints and seers during Simhastha at Ujjain, they said that efforts in this direction will succeed only when mindset of people towards women and girls is changed. When every person will respect girls with the core of heart then only female foeticide could be completed curbed. Saints said that Madhya Pradesh government’s stress and efforts for women’s empowerment, curbing female foeticide, Beti Padhao-Beti Bachao and other social concerns pertaining to women are laudable. Sadhvi Karuna Giriji of Haridwar Karunadham said that field-level efforts are necessary to curb female foeticide. For this, people need to be counselled in rural and urban areas. She laid emphasis on continuous programmes in this direction at Gram Panchayat level. She called for involving religious Gurus in the movement. Sadhvi Karuna Giriji said that child marriages have been curbed to a great extent due to continuous efforts for it with involvement of all sections of society throughout the country. Sadhvi also said that for ending discrimination between sons and daughters, it is necessary that people are motivated to educate girls and consider daughters-in-law as daughters. Bal Yogini Karuna Giriji lauded arrangements for Simhastha. She said that it is her third Simhastha. She never saw such arrangements before.
