PR Minister Mr. Shukla meets Union MoS for civil aviation
Bhopal, May 12, 2016 (Ataullah Faizan): Public Relations, Energy, New & Renewable Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Mr. Rajendra Shukla met Union Minister of State for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (Independent charge) Mr. Mahesh Sharma in New Delhi today. He urged the Union Minister to sanction upgradation of Rewa airstrip to airport under Regional Connectivity Scheme. Mr. Shukla urged to send the sanction to Airport Authority of India to include it in the scheme. Mr. Shukla informed the Union Minister that necessity for regular air connectivity is being felt in Vindhya region. Earlier also, the Union Government had selected Rewa strip’s upgradation to a low-cost airport among 50 airports of India under its scheme in year 2013. The state government has conducted its pre-feasibility study through Airport Authority of India. According to the report, Rewa strip was found feasible to be developed as a commercial airport. The PR Minister informed the Union Minister that in view of the wish of Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, early sanction should be granted to upgrade Rewa airstrip to airport.
The Minister informed Mr. Sharma that Rewa airstrip is being maintained by government of Madhya Pradesh. From there, small non-schedule aircrafts and aircrafts conducted by State Tourism Development Corporation are operated. Rewa area is developing constantly. In the area, industries, agro-based industries and tourist destinations are also developing rapidly. Under these circumstances, it is very significant to upgrade Rewa airstrip to airport.
