NEW DELHI: At least 55 people were killed and 8 injured in lightning in different districts of Bihar, as the monsoon rain lashed the state on Tuesday.
Disaster management department principal secretary Vyasji confirmed the deaths.
Vyasji said that the government would provide Rs 4 lakh compensation to the next kin of each victim.
Nalanda, Aurangabad, Rohtas and Purnea were the worst hit districts of the state.
Monsoon rains have been lashing Bihar from Tuesday evening and thunderbolts are striking at regular intervals.
Four persons died at separate places in Aurangabad district on Tuesday, officials said.
A man and his son became victims of the lightning strike while they were returning home from field in Darmikala village under Tandwa police station.
Under Daudnagar police station, one person each became victim of lightning strikes in Aarai and Pansa villages
