Vadodara: An extra-marital affair cost a 28-year-old man his life in Shinor taluka of the district on Sunday. Shrikant Patel was beaten to death and later dumped in a canal by his wife, her lover and three others. The police arrested all the accused on Sunday evening.
The accused have been identified as Jyoti Patel, Bhridal Patel, Hasmukh Patel, Abrar Khokhar and Ishwar Patel. While Jyoti, Bhridal and Hasmukh are residents of Dariyapura village, Abrar and Ishwar are residents of Chanod village in Dabhoi taluka.
Police said that Shrikant’s uncle filed a missing person complaint on Saturday. The family told police that he had gone to fetch water on Friday night and had not returned home.
“After the complaint was filed we questioned his friends. We found Shrikant’s body and his motorbike in Timberva canal towards Segva village. The accused had attempted to dress up the crime scene to make it appear as a case of accident,” said Shinor police sub-inspector P S Singh.
After his body was found, a panel of doctors conducted post mortem.
“Post mortem report revealed that he suffered internal head injuries that caused his death. A bone in the skull and a collar bone was fractured,” added Singh.
Hasmukh on Friday night lured Shrikant under the pretext of a party to an isolated area. Bhridal hit Shrikant with a wooden stick and later strangled him to death.
“Ishwar and Bhridal took Shrikant’s body to the canal on his motorbike. The couple had earlier planned to poison Shrikant but did not succeed,” said Singh.
Police said that both Jyoti and Bhridal were plotting the murder for the past 25 days. They even planned to flee from the village in six months.
Shrikant was a farmer and lived with his uncle. He married Jyoti four years ago. Both Jyoti and Bhridal were in a relationship for the last two years.
