A 50-year-old mother of two was allegedly paraded semi-naked at Mirpur village in Dera Bassi near here, after her son allegedly eloped with a girl from the same village. However, in a new twist to the case, the alleged minor, before the court, said that she was major, and left her house to marry the man she loved. Though police booked seven persons, including three women, no arrests are made.
Police said the accused, after assaulting the woman, allegedly paraded her in semi-nude condition, and allegedly shot a video to shame her for her son’s act.
Police said to find out the whereabouts of the victim’s son, the accused first assaulted the woman, and then her husband and the younger son after detaining them for about five hours. All three are admitted to the Dera Bassi civil hospital.
The victim said her elder son Lucky, 25, eloped with a girl on August 1. “Since then we are trying to locate him. On Wednesday, we were returning from my parental village in Ambala when, at Mirpur focal point, the accused Saroj, Mahinder, Kamla, Pawan, Jaychand, Balkar, intercepted and held us captive for about five hours, and thrashed us,” the victim told police.
“They paraded me semi-naked, and filmed the entire episode on a mobile phone,” the victim said. The accused fled from the spot after the village residents gathered at the spot.
Deepinder Singh, station house officer (SHO), Dera Bassi, said that on the complaint of the victim, a case for criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty, wrongful restrain, voluntarily causing hurt, and criminal intimidation is lodged.
“The girl has been recovered. She told before the court that she was 21-year-old and left her home on her will,” added the SHO.
He said, “We have recovered the video. The law will take its own course, and the guilty will be arrested.”
The accused have also lodged a complaint against the victim’s son for kidnapping his minor daughter, and for taking away cash and jewellery.
