GST to bring uniformity in state-centre taxes

Bhopal, August 28, 2016 (Muslim Saleem): GST (Goods and Service Tax) is a big step forward towards development. It would pave the way for development in the Centre and States. Lok Sabha speaker Mrs. Sumitra Mahajan expressed the views in a seminar organised by Madhya Pradesh Tax Law Bar Association and Commercial Tax Practitioner Association. State’s Finance and Commercial Tax Minister Mr. Jayant Mallaiya was present on the occasion. Mrs. Mahajan said that GST will accelerate growth in all state at a common pace. The Lok Sabha speaker said that the centre and the states are not apart. They have coordinating relations. She said that states have to develop themselves to be consumer states so people’s purchasing power could increase. Finance minister Mr. Mallaiya said that industries, commercial institutions, traders and consumers will get benefit of the unified tax rates. He said that GST has been made with consent of all. There are provisions in GST to deter tax evasion. Also, the provisions are there to provide compensation to states. Principal secretary, commercial tax, Mr. Manoj Shrivastava said that GST not only changed the tax system but also changed value system. A way of mutual respect and concessions will have to be adopted in GST. The new system will strengthen the federal system. Commercial tax commissioner Mr. Raghvendra Singh, former MLA and State Trader Cell president Mr. Gopikrishna Nema, president of Commercial Tax Practitioner Association Mr. Anil Jain, Madhya Pradesh Tax Law Bar president Mr. Ashwin Lakhotia also spoke on the occasion.
