In a shocking incident, a panchayat in Muazaffarnagar district fined a 70-year-old man with Rs 82,000 for raping two girls, aged six and five.
Reportedly, both the sisters had gone out to the fields on Saturday evening to bring back their goats when Harichandar Shah (70) gave a packet of biscuits to them and lured them inside his house after which he raped them both one by one and fled from the spot.
The incident took place on Saturday evening at village Jibazor under Aurai police station area in Muzaffarpur district, around 72km from Patna.
The victims would be sent for medical examination on Thursday to ascertain rape.
As per the SHO, a panchayat was called on Sunday morning, in which it was announced that the parents would be paid Rs 41,000 for each sister to hush up the matter, instead of going to police.
Following this, the mother of the victims went to the police and lodged an FIR against Harichandar, mukhiya’s husband Raju Mishra, sarpanch’s husband Gudar Mishra and a lawyer of the village who ordered payment of compensation in presence of villagers. Meanwhile, all the accused are on the run.
The FIR has been lodged under Sections 376 (committing rape), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC and POCSO Act, 2012.
