A man who was presumed dead by his family members walked back home in Jalaun district when his family members were conducting his ‘shraddh’. Girdhari Lal, a native of Birguwan village went missing for the last 40 years, so his family presumed him to be dead.
According to TOI, Girdhari had left home for Gwalior at the age of 30 in 1976. When he did not return his family looked for him and lodged a missing person complaint but later gave up hope.

His name was also struck off the voter’s list and BPL (below poverty level) ration card. Every year his family members would observe ‘tarpan/shraddh’.
It is not clear as to what Girdhari did all these years, how he survived and where he had been. He said that he spent his time working as a labourer in various districts of Madhya Pradesh. His elder son Paramsukh said that they are trying to find out more details from him.
His wife Jagdura said that he has become quite old, but is healthy and also normal. She could express her happiness. His younger son Dashrath said that it was an emotional reunion with his father. they never thought they would see him again after so many years. They will take good care of him and help him.
The villagers of Birguwa failed to recognise him but his elder children were quick to identify him.
