People visit the Durga temple every year on Navami (ninth day of Navratra) and offer their blood to the Goddess.
Children, as young as 15 days old, are also included in this bizarre ritual. From young children to elderly people offer their blood at the temple through a total of five cuts on their body.
This temple at Bansgaon village in Gorakhpur has been practising this bizarre ritual every Navratra since hundreds of years.
Locals here believe that Goddess Durga is pleased by offerings of blood and rids their families off all ailments.
