By Muslim Saleem after return from Raipur, capital of Chhattisgarh state in India
Chhattisgarh was once part of Madhya Pradesh. It separated from Madhya Pradesh in state’s bifurcation in year 2000. Due to some constraints I could not visit its capital when the state of unified. However, I got an opportunity to visit Raipur for the first time on November 7, 2016.
There I saw a grand mausoleum near Ghadi Chowk. I was suddenly and spiritually attracted towards it. After completing my work, I along with my son Abdul Ahad Farhan visited the tomb.
By way of journalistic curiosity, I asked an old man attending to people there about history of tomb and Sahib-e-Mazar. His name was Aslam. First he tried to explain himself, but as the queries by increased, he took me to Sajjad of the tomb. Sajjada Saheb not only briefed me in detail, but also provided me a booklet containing information and photographs of the Sufi Saint who has passed away only 35 years ago and thousands of people are still alive who have witnessed his miracles.
The Sufi saint was Hazrat Syed Sher Ali Agha RA. He came to Raipur in year 1965 from Afghanistan along with 3 other saints. While others dispersed to various cities of Chhattisgarh, Hazrat Syed Sher Ali Agha RA stayed in Raipur city. He always wore a Chadar. His Shajra was upto Hazrat Ghaus Ul Azam RA.
First he started roaming streets of Raipur without talking to anyone. He did not know local language, Hindi and Urdu at that time. After roaming here and there, he sat on stone slab near shop of Sindhi shopkeeper. From that time, he refused to move from that place and kept sitting there for about 15 years in the open air during all seasons weathering chilling cold, extreme heat and incessant rains wearing only one chadar.
Soon his Karaamat started to manifest on people. Most of his life, he kept mostly silent and expressed his intentions with signs. In his entire life, he spoke only a few words. Everyone who visited him with some Murad was benefited without disclosing it. Gradually, people thronging him grew in numbers.
Biggest Karamat of Hazrat Syed Sher Ali Agha RA is not no one ever saw him going for defecation and urination. Despite this, his body was always clean and Paak. A faint smell used to come from his body. He also ate very less that is a few morsels of Khichadi prepared by his staunch follower marhoom Janab Mohammad Shameem Rivzi Ashrafi.
Hazrat Syed Sher Ali Agha RA passed away in year 1983. Lakhs of people from cross section of society and followers of all religions attended his funeral procession. After some months, marhoom Janab Mohammad Shameem Rivzi Ashrafi built a grand tomb where Hazrat Saheb is buried. After years, marhoom Janab Mohammad Shameem Rivzi Ashrafi also died and was buried in one side of the same tomb. Nowadays, Janab Mohammad Naeem, son of marhoom Janab Mohammad Shameem Rivzi Ashrafi is Sajjada Nasheen.
