Simple marriage based on tradition of Prophet (PBUH) is the need of the day.  The money saved in these marriages should be used for marriages of poor and orphan girls…..Shaheryar Mohammed Khan.

Shaheryar Mohammed Khan a speaker from Dammam, Saudi Arabia, was invited but he was unable to reach India to address the gathering, however his speech was readout by Janab Yousuf Nadvi Sahab, audience was spell bounded, in his speech Shaheryar Khan stressed that there is no provision of dowry in Islam and as a Muslim it is our duty to remove all type of dowries from the country, whether it is in form of cash, moveable or immoveable property like land, house or any other form, bride’s father should not spend even a single rupee in the whole marriage. In the same way girl’s parents should not demand for higher mehr (is a mandatory payment, in the form of money or possessions paid or promised to pay by the groom, or by groom’s father, to the bride at the time of marriage, that legally becomes her property). He said Bhopali’s have tradition of simple marriages, where no food or refreshment was served in barat by bride’s family. Simple Walima (Feast) is sunna of Prophet and I remember, few years back in Bhopal, only Biriyan and Zarda was served in walima(called 2 rang kakhana), unfortunately in due course of time this tradition has been changed, now 30, 50 or sometimes more dishes are served in the marriages, Resulting in disastrous marriage ceremonies. We should leave all these evil practices and again bring back Bhopali traditional style marriages based on Sunnah and teachings of Islam.  The money saved in these marriages should be used for marriages of poor and orphan girls.

Recently our society is fallen victim of a new evil practice, misuse of anti-dowry law section(IPC) 498aby wife and her family members, there are hundreds of instances where innocent men and their family members were victimized by greedy wives. Sadly, this most dreaded Section is being used by wives to harass the husbands and their families. .In a huge number of cases, the women who had decided to separate from their husbands for different reasons have used the provision to extract monies and obtain properties from their husbands as part of settlement. In July, 2014, seeing the rampant misuse of the Section, a bench of the Supreme Court of India remarked that women were increasingly using the Section to harass their husbands and in-laws. The bench restrained the police from mechanically arresting the husband or his relatives on mere lodging of complaint under the Section.  It required them to satisfy themselves about the necessity of arrest under the parameters set forth in section (41)  of the IPC, which provides a check list or conditions to be satisfied before arresting any person alleged to be involved in a crime punishable. The fact that a mere 15% of the people who were arrested on the basis of complaints by wives were convicted demonstrates a clear misuse of the Section which needs to be curbed with an equivalent force, did we forget teachings of holy Quran, where it is stated very clearly to involve two arbitrators (one from husband side and other from wife’s side) to resolve the dispute between husband and wife. I think if matter could not be resolved by the two, than the case should be referred to Qazi for peaceful settlement, but unfortunately crossing all limits, now people reach police to jump into false accusations and make the case lengthy, result in wastage of money and time. We should stand up and aware people to settle the family disputes peacefully in light of Quran and sunnah. If dispute is not resolved one can move to court of law for justice.

“Boycott of extravagant weddings is the only solution to stop un-Islamic customs”…Dr. Aleem khan Falaki

In his speech Dr. Aleem Khan Falaki said we campaigned mainly for boycotting the extravagant wedding. Attending such weddings is an open violation of Quran and Sunnat. Main victims are bride’s parents and brothers who lose their fortune only for a dinner of hundreds of guests. Gathering huge number of guests is again against Sunnat. If somebody wants to change the system without Boycott he is living in fool’s paradise. It is hypocrisy to condemn such parties at the same time attending too.

He said dowry is an evil, and we should fight to remove it from our society. He discussed different type of dowry systems prevailed in the country and best solution is to fight till it vanishes. He also emphasized to put some restrictions on spending on marriage ceremonies due to which bride’s parents come into great pressure and usually they sell out their property or mortgage it, remaining life they spend to pay their debts and free the mortgage property. In Islam dowry is not allowed in any form but people adopted it from surrounding culture. Some girls even lost their lives due to not fulfilling demands of husbands. We are in 21st century and this is the right time to aware our young grooms to reject idea of dowry and accept wife as a soul mate for loving and happy married life.
