Like many middle-class families with big dreams, her ex-serviceman father, who had retired from Air Force, had spent all his money on her education.
His daughter dreamt big and he supported her all the way.

But as fate would have it, just an hour before Himani was going to be a certified pilot, the fatal accident happened at Kirori Tehsil which is around 40km from Gondia.
Her plane crashed and she lost her life. Along with her, senior trainer Ranjan Gupta (44) was also killed.
Retired from Air Force and now working in the Indigo Airlines Jaiveer originally belongs to Kutel village of Karnal district of Haryana. Besides Himani, he has a son. The devastated father was heard saying, I never thought my daughter to be less than my son.
At 2 PM on Thursday, Himani was brought to her native village for her last journey. Her last rites were performed at around 2:30 PM.
The Fatal Crash
Senior Trainer Ranjan Gupta with his student Himani Kalyan (23) flew from Birsi Avenue in Gondia, Maharashtra at 9:05 am on the training aircraft, DA-42.
Himani was training with the National Institute of Aviation Training and Management, a Government of India Institute. It is also known as the Rajiv Gandhi National Flying Institute.
According to eyewitnesses, at around 10 am on the banks of the Banganga river between Lavni and Deori of Maharashtra, the trainee aircraft was caught in a cable causing the plane to crash into pieces.
Himani was taking training for two years and this was her last flight of her training.
After one hour, she was going to complete her 200 flying hours and become a certified pilot but this came to be her last flight of her life.
There should be an experience of flying at least 200 hours for the commercial pilot”s license, and Himani already had 199 hours of experience of flying the plane.
