Pujari’s penis cut off on order of Panchayat for entering into wedlock

pujariBhopal: A priest was ostracized by a community panchayat in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh after he tied the nuptial knot. The panchayat also shut the doors of the temple on the priest.

Uttamdas, 30, a priest at the famous Paragarh temple situated on the city outskirts, enraged the devotees after he got married to a village girl. When some devotees spotted the priest with his wife in a room in the temple premises they spread the word, police said.

Soon, a panchayat was convened comprising elders of 15 neighbouring villages. About 50 village elders assembled in the temple premises and discussed the issue. The panchayat later decided to evict the priest from temple premises and he was also ostracized from the society, a panchayat member Ramashray Yadav said.

RS Choudhary of Dehat police station of Tikamgarh said, “It is matter related to Yadav community. The priest is also a Yadav, who got married earlier this month.”

Uttam Das told the panchayat that marriage is not a crime and he can serve god even as a married person. But the panchayat did not listen to his argument.

“A married priest cannot live inside a temple,” the panchayat said in its diktat.
