Pay special attention to upkeep of roads, buildings and bridges during monsoons

Bhopal, June 11, 2017 (Ataullah Faizan):  Public Works Law and Legislative Affairs Minister Mr. Rampal Singh has issued instructions to the field officers of Public Works Department that they should pay special attention to the maintenance of roads, buildings and bridges during the rainy season. Before the rainy season begins, the departmental gang should mandatorily inspect all roads and carry out the work of bolt repair. All roads and big bridges should be inspected minutely and the essential repair work should be completed before the rainy season ushers in. It should also be ensured that traffic on the roads should not be hindered. In his instruction Minister Mr. Singh asked the officials to send information after inspection of all the roads that fall under performance guarantee. He asked them to get proper repair done of works coming under the guarantee as per contract with the contractor. It should also be ensured that the contractor should collect necessary material needed of road repair so that road repair can be carried out in rainy season also. If the contractor does not carry out repair work according to the performance guarantee, action should be taken against him as per the contract and road repair work should be undertaken. Action should also be taken against such contractors under the Registration Rules. Necessary material needed for road repairs should be purchased and stored at a safe place before rainy season. PWD Minister said that trucks, rollers, tractor available with the Electrical Engineering Wing should be repaired.

Electricity-Civil unit should coordinate and jointly make arrangements. Submersible bridges and tapras of each district under Public Works Department should be marked and their list be made available to the Collector, Superintendent of Police and Chief Engineer. Departmental team should coordinate with district administration and Superintendent of Police to stop transport on bridges submerged due to flood water. Such bridges and tapras should be marked and security arrangements for traffic should be made, He said that the field squad should put up drop gates where necessary.
