Research conclusions should help make police system better

MoU between police and M.I.T. in presence of CM Mr. Chouhan

lead27.7.17Bhopal, July 27, 2017 (Muslim Saleem):  A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today at the CM House in the presence of Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan between Madhya Pradesh Police and one of the bet universities of the world -the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T). The Institute will conduct research work to make the state police more public-oriented. Director General of Police Mr. Rishi Kumar Shukla and Mr. Abdul Latif Jameel of Massachusetts Institute of Technology Research Institute, South Asian Head of Garibi Unmoolan Action Lab Miss Shobhni Mukherji signed the MoU. Police officers, professors and researchers of the institute were present on the occasion. CM Mr. Chouhan said that constant efforts are being made to make community policing more effective in the state. A public hearing was started in the year 2009 in this direction. A provision of 30 per cent reservation in the police force has been made to empower women in the state. The Chief Minister expressed happiness on the MoU with the Institute. He said that the research work should be fair and conclusive. The conclusions of the study should help in improving and strengthening police system.

Director General of Police Mr. Rishi Kumar Shukla told that the research work criteria will focus on dialogue between the public and police, police reaction-process and incorporation of women in police force.  Additional Chief Secretary Home Mr. K.K. Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Ashok Bernawal, Additional Director General of Police Mr. Rajiv Tandon and Mrs. Anuradha Shankar Singh, Professor Virginia University Mr. Sandeep Suthankar, Professor Harvard University Mr. Akshay Mangla, Professor Vizner Virginia Miss Gabriela Crooks, Project Officer J.P.A. Lab South Asia Mr. Vishnu Padmanabhan, Research Assistant Mr. Anshuman Bhargav were present on the occasion.
